Technology is changing at such a rapid rate in today’s world that if you follow a particular current trend, you may only find it outdated and replaced by another in the blink of an eye. Many Internet experts are beginning to state that the search engines are becoming more inefficient on a daily basis and that a lot of websites that have been optimized for them will soon find themselves on the outside looking in.

These ‘experts’ say that as the internet continues to grow its current rate, so much content is being added to it that search engines are unable to keep up with it. If this is true, the most relevant information may not be showing up, but rather the best search engine optimized (SEO) information is. The question then is – will SEO as we know it today remain a valued and trustworthy mode of promotion?

A recent survey has shown that of the people searching the internet, many of them prefer to turn to their friends on twitter or facebook for suggestions rather than using a search engine. This is understandable as people trust their friends more than some random site that may be feeding them false information. There are also rumors that Google is going to start offering ‘real time’ search options that display tweets. This may affect SEO practices since those that post shorter and more relevant updated information will be the ones capitalizing on traffic.

Search engine optimization as we know it today also has another potential problem. As marketing on the internet (and internet users as a whole) continues to grow, duplicate content is starting to show up all over the place. For example, many businesses marketing themselves online may, rather than create and manage their own campaign, may just look at what is working for someone else and simply duplicate it. This usually results in a large number of websites with very similar content. To truly increase brand awareness online, a business needs to be as unique as possible. Rather than following someone else’s path, they should focus on blazing their own trail.

Despite these potential issues, there are still ways to market your business on the Internet. Just ask yourself what it is that your customers are looking for. What are their ‘pain points’? What can you put on your website to ensure they find you and subsequently feel the need to keep coming back? And, most importantly, are you selling what they need at a price they are willing to pay? If you can answer these questions and succeed in providing it, you will likely not have to worry about the volatility of SEO. Your satisfied customers will likely spread the word about your business and your website will grow simply by word of mouth.

The fundamentals of SEO will likely remain basically the same. If you follow these fundamentals, add your own creativity, and focus on your site’s content and offers, you will likely have no reason not to succeed. Find your own unique method and provide relevant content and value. Don’t just retread someone else’s ideas .If you can create your own path you’ll likely find yourself on your way to success.
