is it a simple process? Well, it depends on who you ask. If you
go to your favorite Internet Marketing forum, you will see some
people complain about how long it is taking them to get listed.
Then the next person might be proudly lementing about how he was
picked up in less than 5 days. There are obviously some
variables at play that are only fully understood by Google
officials who set the algorithms for the search engine.
Since the average lay person web site owner would have no idea
of what Google actually responds best to, then we are at the
mercy of what we learn from eachother or what is instructed by a
hosting company or what you can learn from a service like
Ask.com etc.
The most common advice is to make sure you have high ranking key
words placed through your text with Key words comprising around
10% of the text on your home page. Once again, depending on who
you talk to, that method is last years' news and is not
effective anymore.
There are cases where sites have gotten listed with just a good
key word as the only text on the page. The site I have in mind
didn't have any links on it either.
Here are a couple of ways that you have more control over. 1.
Get listed on relevant sites, listed in articles, listed in
directories, write your content to be aimed at your main
keywords, meta tags (always use), robot.txt files. 2. It helps
to have your domain as your main keyword.
Here are some simple ones for those of you who have blogs:
1. Submit your website/blog feed to your "MY Google" page. If
you don't have one-->GET ONE NOW!
2. Setup a blogger blog with links to your sites/ blogs.
It's a No-Brainer having a Google owned service with a subdomain
PageRank 10 linking to you. BTW go into the Blogger Template and
change the "No/Follow" to "Index/Follow" and there you have it.
You should be listed in no time.
